mf.subject.keywords The historical evolution of reference systems and frames that have been used in astronomy will be outlined, and the transformations among them will be given. The resolutions adopted by the International Astronomical Union in 2000 and 2006, concerning these systems and transformations, will be discussed in detail. The IAU2000 model of precession/nutation will be presented. The lecture will also be concentrated on the astrometric techniques that have been used to realize reference systems in the past and nowadays, and the evolution of astrometric catalogs will be discussed. en_US
